Every year SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) Serve helps different companies through the help of SCAD students. This year the site we focused on was the Savannah Children's' Theatre located in Savannah.

Savannah Children's' Theatre is a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization. They exist to provide children with a safe and creative environment for character development by teaching appreciation for performing arts.

Their mission is to inspire, educate, and entertain children and families through the experience of live theatre, both on and off the stage.

process

On our first site visit we saw that signage was necessary due to the building being so large. If signage was placed in easily seen areas parents and young children would be able to maneuver through the ares easily.

Once we figured out that we wanted different shaped arrows as the directional signs throughout the building than came the structure part. We ended up going with the box base as it was the easiest way to keep it standing.

For the color of the arrows we used the different colors that are present in the SCT logo. As for the shape of the arrows we went with playful shapes. It's more fun for the kids when they read it and it also goes with the atmosphere of the theatre.

Concession Area

The concession area portrays the vibrant colors of theatre life. The picture wall can include upcoming show banners, play pictures, and any other pictures that show what the Savannah Childrens' Theatre is about. The black walls allow the colors to pop within the space. Main colors we see in the theatre are black and red. We wanted to incorporate the theme that goes on behind the black curtains and bring the same feeling into the lobby. The lobby will create a welcoming environment for the children and their families.
